Zero Indifference

On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the Aula Magna of Building A at the Piazzale Europa Campus will become a hub for active citizenship. With the event “ZERO INDIFFERENCE – analyses, stories and workshops on local poverty”, Caritas Diocesana Trieste, in collaboration with the University of Trieste and the University Pastoral Service, will challenge students to transform knowledge into social impact.
The initiative has a twofold goal: to break down stereotypes surrounding poverty and to offer future professionals the opportunity to grow as socially aware individuals. Volunteering is not seen merely as support, but as a formative experience capable of fostering:
  • Awareness and responsibility toward local vulnerabilities.
  • Essential soft skills: listening, empathy, conflict management and problem solving — competencies that are increasingly valuable in today’s job market.
  • Networking skills, learning how to collaborate for the common good.
The afternoon programme
The event, taking place from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, will feature a rich programme focused on dialogue and participation:
  • Institutional greetings: with Rector Donata Vianelli, Professor Giulia Caccamo, Caritas Trieste Director Giovanni La Manna, and researcher Vera Pellegrino.
  • Testimonials: firsthand accounts from those working in the field with Caritas Diocesana Trieste, Donk Humanitarian Medicine HM, Comunità di San Martino al Campo and Comunità di Sant'Egidio.
  • Workshops: a dedicated space where young participants will develop concrete actions to combat poverty.
At the end of the event, following a social gathering, participants will have the opportunity to express their interest in joining structured volunteering programmes within local community services.
