SPIN - Spaces for Encounter, Spaces for Inclusion: A New Network Path Towards Autonomy
Building paths of genuine autonomy for those living in vulnerable conditions and countering prejudice through the power of encounter and accurate information. It is with these goals that on September 1st, "SPIN - Spaces for Encounter, Spaces for Inclusion" was launched, a new national project that sees the Diocesan Caritas Foundation of Trieste working in synergy with a vast network of partners across Italy.
The project was created to provide a concrete and structured response to the difficulties affecting the migrant population in our country. Today, asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection often face growing obstacles: from the risk of social exclusion and marginalization, to economic precariousness and the struggle to access fundamental rights—a situation unfortunately exacerbated by the reduction of services in the institutional reception system.
Addressing these complex needs requires a comprehensive approach. For this reason, SPIN is not limited to a single type of intervention but acts transversally, adapting to the needs of each local community.
Specifically, the actions will develop along three main guidelines:
- Promoting autonomy: strengthening inclusion pathways to restore dignity and independence to migrants.
- Countering marginalization: curbing exposure to economic vulnerability and forms of social marginalization.
- Educating and informing: fighting stereotyped narratives, fake news, and hate speech that often target migrants and refugees. Efforts will focus on the skills of information professionals and raising awareness among younger generations to build a culture of welcoming free from prejudice.
Through these three pillars, SPIN aims to take a snapshot of our territory, highlighting the positive impact that can be generated when different organizations join forces for the common good.

The initiative is funded by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies for the year 2025 under the Fund for the financing of initiatives and projects of national relevance pursuant to Art. 72 of Legislative Decree No. 117/2017.
