Lent returns as a “favorable time,” an invitation to return to the heart and widen our gaze toward those who live beside us. With the message our Diocese wishes to bring to light forms of hardship that make no noise, hidden behind serene faces and apparently orderly lives, yet real and present in our neighborhoods.
In Trieste, there is a discreet poverty made up of daily needs that often remain in the shadows.
- rents that are difficult to sustain and electricity and gas bills that accumulate.
- Adults living alone: people, often over 55, marked by precariousness and loneliness.
- dental care, prosthetics, or medical visits postponed due to lack of resources.
- people whose already fragile financial balance can suddenly collapse because of an unexpected event.
The Fund is a concrete tool for these individuals and families, supported by the Diocesan Listening Center, the Refettorio, and parish Listening Centers. Parishes act as valuable “antennas,” discreetly identifying the most hidden needs.
recalls Father Giovanni La Manna SJ, Director of the Diocesan Caritas.
During Lent 2026, everyone can contribute in two ways:
- support the Solidarity Fund according to your means.
- volunteering in Caritas services or in your parish.
The goal is to ensure that no poverty remains invisible and that Easter finds a more attentive and fraternal community.
