Humanitarian Corridors: An Iraqi Family Welcomed in Trieste

Trieste welcomes a new family of Iraqi origin within the framework of the National Caritas Protocol for the “humanitarian corridors”.
The family, who left Jordan together with 40 other people, arrived in Fiumicino on September 18. Upon entering Italy, they were met by the operators of the Diocesan Caritas of Trieste, who will accompany them along their path of reception and integration in the area.
The humanitarian corridors project, born from the agreement between the Italian Government and the Italian Episcopal Conference and implemented by Caritas Italiana together with the dioceses, represents a concrete opportunity for legal and safe immigration for people fleeing war and serious human rights violations.
Funded by the Italian Episcopal Conference, the project complements the initiatives of labour and university corridors and offers a dignified alternative to dangerous migration routes, placing the protection of life and the respect for human dignity at the centre.
In a time marked by crises and conflicts, the arrival of this family is a sign of hope and solidarity, confirming the importance of humanitarian pathways that bring together communities and territories in a shared commitment to peace and inclusion.
In addition to Trieste, the dioceses of Pescara, Capua, Teggiano, Teano and Cerreto Sannita have also opened their doors to families who arrived in Italy through the same project, in a network of hospitality that shows how, together, it is possible to build paths of dignity and future.
